One of our Client, North America’s largest vertically integrated travel company, includes a tour operator, an airline, a destination management division and nearly 50 all-inclusive hotels and resorts.
Many organizations rely on SAP BO for data analytics & business intelligence. It is not only expensive to maintain but also has limited features. Over the past few years, companies have been adopting POWER BI due to the seamless interaction it has with other Microsoft tools, appealing price & its rich suite of features POWER BI provides interactive visualizations and has better business intelligence capabilities. It is a simple BI tool where end users can create their own reports & dashboards.
How We Work
If the organization uses third-party extensions or plug-ins in SAP BO, check if similar functionality is available in Power BI or if there’s an alternative solution.
The Challenge
- SAP BO and Power BI use different data modeling approaches. Converting and restructuring data models to fit Power BI’s model could be complex.
- Due to differences in visualizations and customization options, Reports and Dashboards need to be recreated in Power BI, potentially requiring significant design and layout adjustments.
- Power BI uses DAX for defining calculations and queries whereas SAP BO is SQL based
- Data sources used in SAP BO are to be verified for compatibility with Power BI. Some sources might require modifications or workarounds to integrate effectivelyc
- Migrating the transformation logic used in SAP BO to Power BI’s Power Query can be challenging. The logic might need to be rewritten, potentially causing inconsistencies or errors • Performance and scalability of Power BI is to be tested for specific use cases.
